Position summary

Boone County Democrats is seeking an organized, reliable, and community-minded Volunteer Outreach Coordinator through November 2026. This role develops and implements a volunteer engagement program designed to help Boone County Democrats build stronger local Democratic infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with people, managing large groups, attending to details, using computers and office software, and supporting political work in a fast-moving environment. This position requires flexibility, good judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to Democratic values.

Essential duties

The Volunteer Coordinator will develop and implement a program to recruit, engage, train, and maintain volunteers in a variety of roles ranging from office support to deep canvassing.  Duties may include:

  • Review current systems for volunteer recruitment, refine and implement new methods
  • Review current systems for volunteer communication, refine and maintain
  • Actively seek ways to reach out to potential volunteer audiences and implement
  • Develop a catalogue/listing with descriptions of the various volunteer opportunities, such as canvassing, phone banking, donor management, community events, get out the vote efforts, and voter registration, along with the lead person for that activity.
  • Maintain engagement with new volunteers to ensure satisfaction with their assignments.
  • Be familiar with voter outreach activities, including canvassing, phone banking, texting, voter registration, community events, and get-out-the-vote efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records related to volunteers.
  • Support basic data entry and reporting for volunteer engagement and internal tracking.
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, trainings, and volunteer activities.
  • Communicate professionally with volunteers, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, members, voters, and community partners.
  • Support Boone County Democrats during election cycles, including increased voter outreach and volunteer coordination during high-activity periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Strong computer skills, including experience with email, spreadsheets, shared files, online forms, and basic database entry.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also taking direction and collaborating with others.
  • Comfort working with volunteers, voters, candidates, party leaders, and members of the public.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays and weekends as needed.
  • Commitment to Democratic values and local civic engagement.

Preferred qualifications

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, events, canvassing, phone banks, texting programs, or voter outreach.
  • Experience with VAN, Votebuilder, or another voter database.
  • Experience with political campaigns, local party work, advocacy organizations, unions, nonprofits, or community organizing.
  • Knowledge of Boone County, Missouri politics or local civic organizations.

Work environment and physical requirements

This position is expected to include work reaching out to the public through community events, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings.  Some work will be office-based work and computer-based. The position may require sitting or standing for periods of time, using a computer, communicating by phone and email, preparing printed materials, carrying light supplies, and participating in events or outreach activities.

Schedule expectations

This position requires a flexible schedule. Work may include weekdays and weekends depending on meetings, events, canvases, election deadlines, and volunteer activities. Schedule expectations will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation

This position pays $15 to $18 per hour, depending on experience. Boone County Democrats will provide the expected weekly hours, pay range, and any available benefits or reimbursements before hiring.
